The Pool-Mate is the only fully automatic swimming computer.

Simply press the Start button and begin to swim. No forgetting your lap count! No pressing buttons at the end of each lap! It works with all major strokes, all abilities of swimmer, and all pools longer than 15 yards/15m.

Containing accurate motion sensors and unique software algorithms, the Pool-Mate records each arm stroke and change of lap so you don't have to count anymore. The Pool-Mate will record total Lap count, total Time, Average Strokes per lap, Speed, Distance, Calories, and Efficiency--all completely automatically--and store details in a large memory for recall at your leisure.

As well as the statistics for the overall session, it will record the same data for up to 99 individual sets per session so you can see how your data changes through a swim. It records over 100 sessions (called logs) in the large memory for recall at any time. [The watch buttons--e.g., for recalling recorded data--should not be pressed while watch is under water.]

The Pool-Mate contains state of the art motion sensors that detect the motion of your arm. Unique software algorithms and digital signal processing techniques analyse the data and extract lap, stroke, distance, speed and calorie information automatically. It supports both meters and yards.

The Pool-Mate has been designed for lap swimming in a pool only. In open water it will count average strokes per lap and time your swim but will not measure correct distance, speed, calories or efficiency and may detect rogue laps if your stroke pattern is disturbed.

For accurate lap and stroke counts, strokes can only be changed at the end of a lap--not partway through.

The stroke count recorded is the number of strokes taken by the arm the Pool-Mate is on. So when swimming Crawl or Backstroke, the total number of (left and right) arm strokes will be double the recorded number.

You do not need to press a button at the end of each lap like other lap counters; the Pool-Mate is fully automatic and will sense when you start a new lap without your having to do anything. The Pool-Mate will work with both flip turns and when pushing off the wall. It detects the gap that occurs between regular strokes when you turn. Note, however, that the Pool-Mate is not able to count laps for kick sets or one arm drills; the Pool-Mate must be put into Pause mode when kicking or drilling.

The Pool-Mate does not record what kind of stroke is being performed.

Like most sport watches, the buttons are not designed to be operated underwater. You must make sure that the Pool-Mate is out of the water before pressing any buttons. In particular, do not dive into water wearing the Pool-Mate; pressures are much greater and water may be forced into the case. Water resistant to 50m.

Do not store in a damp environment such as a sports bag.

The Pool-Mate battery (a standard CR2025) has an estimated life expectancy of well over 12 months. The higher your average hours swimming a week, the shorter the battery life will be. To maintain water resistance and ensure the warranty remains valid, the Pool-Mate may be returned to Swimovate Ltd for battery replacement. Alternatively the battery may be replaced by a qualified jeweller.

For each set, the Pool-Mate computes your Speed and your Efficiency Index as follows:
Speed: The time to swim 100m is a frequently-used measure of swimming speed; swimmers are used to watching the pool clock and judging speed from it. The computed Speed is the average time in seconds per 100 meters.
Efficiency Index: The Efficiency Index is the number of strokes (on the arm you are wearing the watch on) plus the time taken to swim 25 metres. Concentrate on reducing this number to increase your efficiency and improve your swimming.
